Keystone Acquires Full Ownership of Whitesville Fertilizer Hub

Sep 16, 2025

Keystone Cooperative, Inc., a leading Indiana-based agricultural and energy cooperative, is proud to announce the full acquisition of the Whitesville Fertilizer Hub located in west-central Indiana. Previously operated as a joint venture between Keystone, its predecessors, and CHS Inc. for the past 14 years, this strategic move marks a significant milestone in Keystone’s commitment to enhancing service and value for its farmer-owners.

The acquisition, finalized on August 29, 2025, enables Keystone to assume complete management and procurement responsibilities for the facility, which boasts a capacity of 34,000 tons of dry fertilizer and 22,500 tons of liquid fertilizer and serves growers within a 35-mile radius. This transition is expected to streamline operations and improve supply chain efficiency in a key geography for the cooperative.

“This agreement between Keystone and CHS highlights the power of cooperatives working together to strengthen the overall cooperative business model,” said Kevin Still, President and CEO of Keystone Cooperative. “We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with CHS and look forward to continuing to collaborate in ways that benefit farmers in our footprint.”

The Whitesville Hub sits at a strategic midpoint between the former territories of Co- Alliance and Ceres Solutions, which merged in early 2024 to form Keystone Cooperative. One of the merger’s primary goals was to identify operational synergies that would deliver measurable benefits to members. The Whitesville facility has quickly emerged as a cornerstone of that strategy, enabling Keystone to optimize efficiencies and expand service capabilities.

“This sale is a great example of how cooperatives can work together to build something stronger for the entire system and deliver exceptional value for owners,” says John Griffith, executive vice president, CHS ag business and CHS Hedging. “Our partnership with Keystone Cooperative reflects our cooperative spirit in action — reinforcing the global supply chain, supporting local growers and expanding opportunities across the ag community.”

With this acquisition, Keystone reinforces its commitment to delivering reliable, localized service. The cooperative remains focused on harnessing scale, expertise, and infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of Midwestern agriculture.
