Gift of Grain at Malden
Something special was launched in Porter County, Indiana on Friday, October 22.
Through the Gift of Grain program, Porter County farmers have the opportunity to support local agriculture education programs all while doing their day-to-day harvest work.
Upon delivering grain to our Co-Alliance Malden elevator, they are able to designate a portion of the load to the Porter County Community Foundation.
The Foundation then sells the grain and deposits the proceeds into the Agricultural Community Initiative Fund. Grants are then made from this fund, supporting agriculture educational programs in Porter County.
The best news - this is not just a one-day event! Growers can continue to designate amounts to be given to the Foundation throughout this harvest season.
"Annually, Gift of Grain generates around $12,000 through grain donations at our Malden location, said Brad Metzger, Malden Ag Center Manager. "Co-Alliance and our farming community recognizes the importance of building a fund available to local school corporations willing to develop and implement agriculture education curriculum and programs within their schools. Further, funds may be available to support local 4-H and FFA programs that demonstrate need."
