Keystone Powers Up Indiana’s Workforce Through SEED Program
Sep 22, 2025

As Governor Mike Braun launches Power Up Indiana, a statewide initiative to grow well-paying jobs for Hoosiers by investing in internal talent development, Keystone Cooperative proudly shares its commitment to upskilling the next generation of agricultural professionals through its innovative SEED Program, Securing Experience and Employee Development.
“Keystone Cooperative is honored to be part of Indiana’s workforce transformation,” said Sarah Morehouse, SEED Manager. “Our SEED Program is a boots-on-the-ground initiative that equips young talent with the skills, mentorship, and experience needed to thrive in agriculture and beyond.”
Founded in 2024, the SEED Program was born from a challenge facing many rural employers: an aging workforce and the need to continue to serve customers to the highest degree. Keystone responded by creating a full-time, paid training program for high school graduates passionate about agriculture but not pursuing post-secondary education. These SEED Professionals are Keystone employees from day one, receiving benefits, responsibilities, and mentorship across the cooperative’s four divisions including agronomy, energy, grain, and swine and animal nutrition.
Participants rotate through hands-on experiences, from operating grain systems and troubleshooting equipment to earning CDLs and engaging with customers. They also gain exposure to corporate functions like marketing and safety, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the business.
Brent Harvey, a member of the inaugural SEED Class of 2024, shared his journey: "When I realized that college wasn't for me, I still wanted a career after high school. Keystone's SEED program has helped me develop life-long skills and uncover interests that I would have never known before. Now, I'm working with my mentors to determine where I fit long-term in the organization."
At the conclusion of the program, SEED Professionals transition into full-time roles or personalized apprenticeships, ensuring long-term career pathways close to home.
“This is how we reward leadership, raise wages, and make Indiana more competitive—one worker at a time,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce David Adams. “This program marks a significant step toward a more competitive, future ready workforce.”
