Stand Up For Grain Safety Week 2023
Mar 31, 2023
Co-Alliance will always advocate for the American farmer and advocating for safety is forever on our priority list. This week is Stand Up for Grain Safety Week so we’re again bringing the issue of farm safety to our channels.
Did You know:
The first Stand-Up 4 Grain Safety Week was held in 2017 and began as an initiative between OSHA Region 7, and the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) Great Plains Chapter. Interest spread in this event, bringing in other OSHA Regions and grain industry leaders, proving the industry’s commitment to growing a stronger safety culture through pooling their ideas and resources.
While we certainly recognize this week, we also believe fully that grain safety deserves to be a year-around effort.
The to-do list never gets shorter, and it seems time only moves faster as it passes. That’s why it is so critical to slow down and really think about safety and consider hazards as we move through our daily work.
Co-Alliance has donated dozens of grain rescue tubes or pieces of extraction equipment such as rope rescue sets or augers, throughout our territory to ensure first responders are equipped with life-saving apparatus.
We’ve facilitated trainings with more than 100 fire departments and 700+ first responders, including firemen, sheriff departments, emergency management and state patrols.
We have participated in several county agriculture days through the 4-H organization, elementary schools and Girl Scout troops. Through these efforts, we have facilitated grain safety lessons to more than 500 youth.
Grain bin safety is an issue that absolutely affects every generation on the farm and has for decades. Technology may progress, but the need for diligent safety never changes.
