Remington Food Pantry Receives $3,000 from Co-Alliance's Food Security Efforts
As part of our cooperative-wide initiative to promote and invest in food security throughout the trade territory in 2023, Co-Alliance has donated $3,000 to the Remington Food Pantry to serve in the efforts of providing food security to that rural area.
Barb Federer, President of the Remington Food Pantry, reached out to us with their needs and has been a valuable partner through this entire process. “This donation provides nutritional meals for many families in our community. Along with the meals, we are now able to provide additional food to the school children while they are home for the summer, she told Co-Alliance. "Each child gets a "kid pack" to use to help feed them while they are home this summer. These are now available during June and July because of the generosity of your company."
Present for the presentation were Co-Alliance employees Zach Hensler, Clint Federer, Jacob Miller, Darren Hannon, Russ Hammer, Jamie Spencer. Food pantry representatives include Barb Federer, President, Sue Smith, Vice President, Peggy Howard, Secretary and Cathy Minick, Treasurer.
Our co-op recently concluded an internal employee food security drive, Planting The Seeds For Food Security, that raised $15,480. That commitment from the farmer-owned cooperative was then tripled, as Co-Alliance is matching every dollar donated by employees and Land O’Lakes will match what Co-Alliance commits through their Member Co-op Match program.
Planting The Seeds For Food Security was developed to invite employees to play a key part in ending hunger in local rural communities. The total money raised to be given back to rural communities through food security donations and the match program is officially $46,440.
Employees were also given the opportunity to elect specifically where those funds are distributed. This is where the community of Remington came into play!
Employees could choose churches, community or regional food banks that serve families in their hometowns. Employee Russ Hammer was instrumental in seeing that dollars went into the Remington, Indiana area.
Additionally, in April Co-Alliance partnered with Land O’Lakes, Inc. to donate 40,000 pounds of LAND O LAKES® Macaroni & Cheese to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana through the Land O’Lakes First Run Program. Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana collaborates with 164 partners in Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph, and Wabash Counties, and the macaroni & cheese product will be distributed through those partners.
