STRESS MANAGEMENT

No disease, No Fungicide? Not that simple.

Agronomist Jason Roth discusses how fungicides can overall improve plant health beyond disease.

Four Key Benefits of Fungicides Beyond Disease

1. Decreasing Ethylene Production

Plants under stress produce ethylene.  This can reduce yield potential because elevated ethylene production results in the earlier browning and death of leaves – the photosynthetic factories of the plant.  Fungicides … (rest is good and doesn’t need to be changed)

2. Stalk Health

Fungicides help preserve the integrity and standability of the stalk to ensure you are able to finish strong at harvest.

3. Transpiration and Respiration Rates

Fungicides have impact on reducing the amount of respiration or burning of energy that's going on in a crop, allowing the plant to conserve more of its energy produced in photosynthesis for the grain to drive higher yields.

4. Fungi Reactive Oxidative Species - ROS

Oxidative stress in plants is can be created by environmental stresses and can result in damage to plant tissue. Fungicides can increase antioxidant production which can decrease oxidative stress in plants.   This reduction in oxidative stress and tissue damage allows plants to maintain higher functionality and preserve yield potential.
